The Crash Course is designed with nurse residencies or structured onboarding programs in mind.
This in-person course is easy to add on to the end of your program, easing the transition of the new staff nurses from residency or orientation into autonomous night shift practice.
Led by night shift lifestyle mentor and founder of the Flip the Shift Method, Ashleigh Small, the course combines the exclusive step-by-step method, interdisciplinary evidence-based practices, and interactivities.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE INVESTMENT?
Up to 10 nurses per class.
Class size is limited to up to 10 nurses to allow for individualized attention and interactivity discussion.
6 hours of classroom time.
1 hour each lesson. 30-40 minutes of education, 10-20 minutes of interactivities, 10 minutes of Q&A.
5.5 nursing contact hours.
Active learning time equates to 5.5 hours. Contact hours are provided to assist with licensure maintenance.
Continued mentor support.
Nurses gain access to a private group in the Night Shift Nurse Network for continued Crash Course support.
Mentor transportation and lodging is also included in the course investment.

Introduction to Night Shift: Recognize the significance of optimizing routines for better health and productivity both personally and professionally
Sleep Optimization and Circadian Rhythm: Apply practical techniques to enhance sleep during the day and optimize circadian adaptation
Nutrition and Energy Management: Develop a personalized plan to maintain energy levels and overall well-being
Stress Relief and Mental Well-Being: Implement stress relief strategies to enhance mental well-being and resilience

Boundaries, Relationships, and Self-Care: Establish effective boundaries, foster positive relationships, and prioritize self-care in a night shift routine

Lunch. The 30 minute lunch is to be coordinated and provided by the organization to the participants and mentor.
Materials. Required handouts will be emailed to education coordinator in PDF form by the mentor to be printed by the organization and brought to the education space.
Education space. An event space equipped with a projector screen, A/V equipment, and table seating for up to 10 nurses is required. This may be at the organization or an outside location.

Class times. To accomodate for shift work sleep schedules, the following class times are recommended:
10am-4pm; lunch at 12:30pm
11am-5pm; lunch at 1:30pm
12pm-6pm; lunch at 2:30pm
Nurse Experience. It is recommended that nurses have at least one month of experience working a night shift schedule, without day shift interruption to bring experience to the class in order to build the best routine.
Shift Scheduling. It is NOT recommended that nurses attending the class work a shift the night before due to cognitive impairment. Please work with units to rearrange nursing schedules for the night off before the class.
